Leicester holds one of the biggest Diwali celebrations outside India. For 2026 the main family celebration is at Cossington Recreation Ground, with community dance, music and cultural performances on stage, food vendors, arts and crafts stalls and a children’s funfair.
The Wheel of Light returns to Belgrave Road, and rangoli artworks will be on display at Belgrave Neighbourhood Centre. The council says there will be no public fireworks display this year. The Golden Mile lights are switched on, without a ceremony, about two weeks before Diwali Day.
The council announced these plans in May 2026, subject to final safety approval, so check the council’s website for timings closer to the day.
